Stephen Bowden's Post & ROFL

While I was out forking the silage, I heard
allspamwillbereported@rickmansworth.mersinet.co.uk (Fenny) say:

>It's actually far easier than that ATM. As it hasn't rained enough here
>recently to increase the level in the butt, I'm down to the last 6
>inches [1], which will probably get used up on the strawberries
>tomorrow. I will then need to herd enough tuits to find the drill,
>drill bits and tap and get them all in the same place before it rains
>again. But this is Wimbledon fortnight, it must be due to rain sometime
>soon [2].
>
>[1] That's a woman's 6 inches
>[2] One can only hope [3]
>[3] Although this is actually a *bad* thing, as it prolongues the
>coverage and allows more time for pontificating, disection of the
>matches and endless replays.

Oh I say, what wondrous usage of footnotes. Let's just take a look at
that second one again:

>[2] One can only hope [3]

Oh yes, Dan. I simply don't understand the criticism levelled at the
women's game. Posting like that is _so_ entertaining, and in many
respects far more readable than the post and ROFL that is coming to
dominate the Men's USENET.

Absolutely Chris, but don't you agree that the widespread adoption of
outlook express is part of the problem? A decade or so ago when rn
and trn were widespread we simply didn't get the endless fish puns,
BTNs and indecipherable in-jokes that bedevil today's USENET. But
with the rain looking as if it is here for a while we will return you
to the alt.fan.cliff-richard as soon as we have had one more look at
that opening shot:

>It's actually far easier than that ATM. As it hasn't rained enough here

Marvellous.
