Hide the Sausage, The Opera, by Linda ffox

Robert is seriously considering composing an opera.

Entitled L'Acqua Bianca, it features an idealistic young couple, Ugo and
Aliena (whose names have been very roughly transliterated here by an
incompetent bit of software) who, having made a long pilgrimage, and
being extremely hungry as a result, have been offered food by a kindly
priest, and make the rash decision that it will be safe to consume it in
the church. However, the arrival of the bishop, who would doubtless
dismiss their new friend from his post if he discovered him permitting
such behaviour in his church, prompts them to conceal the food, which
consists in the main of a large salami, in a small shrine. Alas, the
bishop, alerted by the smell of the salami, discovers it in a very short
time (sorry, I have a nasty feeling that expression means something
else, but let it stand for now) (aaaarghh, no, I mean.... forget I
wrote that) and is mollified by the priest, Father Giuseppe Grandi,
explaining (with fingers crossed behind his back) that it is symbolic of
the Holy Ghost as revealed in the annunciation, and the manifestation at
this time must be a sign that the Tempo Apposito (or appropriate time,
usually abbreviated to TA) has finally arrived... The bishop, whose
name is Cappuccio, is overjoyed at this miracle, and declares that it
shall be distributed amongst the poor and sick, a task which Ugo and
Aliena willingly undertake, spending the rest of their lives amongst
them in penance for their misdeed. And that's the opera.
