I have entered a poem for the British Association's competition. I suffered
for my art and now it's your turn. So there.

The Ballad of Albert Einstein

When classic mechanics and thermodynamics
Were starting to seem in decline
And physics dealt poorly with Michelson-Morley
It needed young Albert Einstein.

Faced with UV catastrophe, Planck knew his maths stuff, he
Brought that part back into line;
Physics latched onto his energy quanta -
And then came young Albert Einstein.

In a theory sublime he had flexi-space-time
And, with insight approaching divine,
Mass and energy paired through the speed of light squared
By the brilliant young Albert Einstein.

What with photo-electrics and advanced gas kinectics*
He was toasted with beer and with wine
1905's bar bill, this annus mirabilis
Grew due to Albert Einstein.

But he then had the nerves to say "Gravity curves
Space - you'll see when eclipses align."
Which they did: without query the General Theory
Showed genius in Albert Einstein.

But he caused consternation on quantum causation
With a staunchly determinist line:
"These things are not random - we don't understand 'em
Quite fully," said Albert Einstein.

There were great paradoxes with odd things in boxes
Like Schrödinger's famous feline;
But the framework of Bohr ended up with no flaw
To the chagrin of Albert Einstein.

There remain lots of panics as quantum mechanics
Still stubbornly will not to combine,
To enormous frustration, with the great Gravitation-
al Theory of Albert Einstein.

We've had vortices, strings and some very strange things
Coiled in thirteen dimensions or nine
But whatever space is, the foundations are his -
It's all built on Albert Einstein.

So in twenty-o-five, though no longer alive,
His achievements continue to shine.
And his heavenly reward? To play dice with the Lord.
Let's have three cheers for Albert Einstein!

*Sorry about that.
